I took both Spanish and surfing lessons with Hugo, and it was an incredible experience. Hugo was very flexible in combining the two, even taking me to his 'semi-secret' surf spots where we often had the waves all to ourselves.
The Spanish classes were one-on-one, which allowed me to progress really fast. What I loved most was Hugo's teaching style, where he brings the teaching into real-life situations, encouraging you to practice with locals. We took Spanish lessons with Hugo at Popoyo Spanish School and had an overall enjoyable experience. Hugo is incredibly kind, welcoming, and generous—he made us coffee and shared fruit during breaks, and put a lot of thought into creating real-life learning experiences. Some highlights were practicing Spanish at the grocery store, having lunch with his friends in town, negotiating prices with a local fruit truck, and even going surfing together on our last day.

Meet The Head Teacher – Hugo Wik
Hugo Wik is a dedicated educator with a passion for helping students grow in both knowledge and confidence. With over 10 years of classroom and online teaching experience, Hugo combines clear explanations, practical examples, and a supportive approach that meets learners where they are. His lessons focus on building strong foundations, encouraging curiosity, and developing real-world skills that students can apply beyond school. Whether working one-on-one or with a full class, Hugo creates an engaging, respectful environment where every question matters and every student feels seen.
Lesson Pricing
We offer a variety of classes to suit all levels and interests. Our pricing structure is designed to be flexible and accommodating. Individual classes are priced at $20 per hour. We always do two hour sessions with a coffee break inbetween.
Package Deals
For those looking to commit to their lerning, we offer several package options. Our 10-class package is available for $180, saving you $20 over the individual session price. An even better option is our 20-hour package for only $320!
We also offer Homestays from $40 a night with a shared meal included and Spanish+Surf Packages!
